Good luck to the both of you in the future.
It just seems so strange that when 70% of the guilds are Euro based, they remove the local community support.

Is a shame to hear this, Martin always seemed like a pretty cool guy on fansites and such.

While I feel sympathy for Peter and Martin, we should not betray ourselves. I often wondered what they were actually doing. They were either never given any information or never allowed to reveal it to the public. Organization of beverages at the Games Convention and skimming forums cannot really be the point of a community manager, sorry. No wonder that they were seen as redundant.

What it boiled down to is making sure that Guild Wars had people who had their ears to the ground in the European side of the market. There were a few blunders early on because ANet didn't understand the European gaming scene.

I'm going a little out of my way with this post, but I believe it's due.
I met several of the people that were axed in Brighton, back in the summer of 2007, when - together with other alpha testers from different countries - I was offered the chance to participate in the QA for the localisation of Eye of the North. So I stayed in Brighton for a couple weeks, spent a couple evenings with some of them, and realised they were all really great guys from the first to the last.
David Bonin, head of the localization team at the time (he left before the cut), and Sam Watts, head of the QA department, outlined my travel and stay in the most comfortable of ways. Everyone in the Localisation team, where I was stationed, was really keen and dedicated to their work; I had to do with the Italian division for the most part, but from our interactions I could see the others were just as professional.
NCE was really a young multi-ethnic setting, and it saddens me to know that so many of those bright people are now suddenly without a job.
I've never had the pleasure to meet Peter but I sure had the chance to talk to Martin a lot, and have been bugging him through the net countless times. I believe that, like many of the good things that graced Guild Wars in the recent times, Martin came a little too late.
Bald- I mean, ol' stutter-crutch Martin seemed to really enjoy Guild Wars. We talked about GW in front of an Asahi (not me, I don't like beer since I'm a pussy) and he was going on about how much he liked warrioring, or how he'd have liked to play at a high level; you could tell him he was bad and he wouldn't flinch, unlike other reps. The last time I saw him playing, he was trying to organize GvG with some other germans. He once even helped the crappy Italian community set up their own GvG tournament, providing rewards and skipping on a night out to stay and flag the matches for obs mode.
He had the right attitude for being a good PvP community rep. We can only hope to see him again, the next time around hopefully from the get go.
Let's not forget about Alex Weekes. Unfortunately I never had the pleasure to meet him in person; albeit not on Guild Wars anymore, he was still a worthwhile CR. He did a fine job back when he was coupled with Gaile, and from our chats I believe he's also grown a lot since then. One can only hope he finds a position where he express his capabilities to the fullest.
With all that said, I would like to end my sermone by wishing for Richard Garriott, who led NC to one massive fail, to have a giant rocket shoved up his arse.
P.S. One wonders how NC West is going to handle the European community with a 10 hour time zone difference, but I guess Jeff Strain knows better.

Best of luck guys. Hope you find another job soon. I know it might be tough in this economy, but with a resume with credentials from NCSoft, getting a job at a smaller company should be possible. And I'm sure a few of the behemoth's (EA, Microsoft) could use you too. Good luck, don't despair or be bitter. It's just business.

Last I've checked, Gaile is still with A-net/NCSoft.
Sorry to hear that, Peter and Martin. I wish you all the best for the future, I'm sure that with your track records you'll find a new job in no time! Good Luck!

Gaile was bumped to Customer Support, and Andrew was bumped to QA.

Gaile just isn't community relations manager or w/e anymore, she still logs on from time to time and says hi. But yes, my point was Regina does Gaile's job now, and Anet is loosing its trademark employees.
